Bunting Drills: Drag One Hit And Run Drill

Focus To drag bunt down one foul line, push bunt down the other, and follow with a hit and run.

Setup One batter, two fielders at pepper game depth (30 to 35 feet from the hitter). Do this drill in the outfield, using the outfield fence as a backstop.

Procedure The batter drags a bunt down on the foul line and pushes a bunt down the other line; then he hits a one-hopper to the opposite field. The sequence is drag one, push one, then hit and run. Players position so that the opposite-field hit and run is in the proper location. On the drag bunts and push bunts, emphasize the importance of getting out of the box quickly.

Coaching Points Timing, contact, and bunting fundamentals are important in this drill, along with sound fielding fundamentals.

Modifications If running the drill in a gym, use a Wiffle ball or pickle ball.
